Adjutant Toft, matron of the Salvation Army Maternity Home, in Carrington street, has been transferred to the charge of a similar Army home in Sydney. Staff Captain Park, of Brisbane, will succeed her in Adelaide.

Memorial Service

A memorial service to the late Adjutant May Toft was conducted in the Salvation Army Citadel by the divisional commander (Major Bentley), assisted by Captain Wheeler (divisional young people's secretary).  Adjutant Toft, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Toft, North Bundaberg, had been associated, with the Salvation Army from girlhood. A nurse by profession, she served with the AIF in France. On returning to Australia she continued herwork with the Salvation Army, but some six years ago she came home to nurse her Invalided mother. She had been ill a week prior to her death.

Alice May Toft entered the Melbourne Training Home on 9 December 1907 from Bundaberg, aged 20. She was appointed to Bethesda on 21 June 1908. Alice enlisted in the AANS on 6 October 1915 and sailed to Egypt with Eva Olive Eggleston, Georgina Collins and Jane Gant. Alice Toft was able to have Georgina Collins as her companion throughout the whole of her was service. She was subsequently posted to London, then to France and later to England again. She was discharged from the AANS on 12 of July 1919 and after furlough was appointed to the League of Mercy Office in Sydney Headquarters. She was then appointed to Bethesda Melbourne but resigned her Commission as an Officer in 1925 to look after her ill mother. Alice Toft died prematurely at her brother’s home in Bundaberg on 11 August 1928 from cancer.

Miss Ilma Toomath, daughter of the Rev. Andrew Toomath, has taken "Mt. Wise" Private Hospital Mercer-road, Malvern, and receives patients for surgical, medical and midwifery work. She is assisted by Miss Stella Walker, R.V.T.N.A. Miss Toomath is fortunately able to supply the hospital with vegetables and poultry which are grown on the premises, and keeps cows which are free from tubercle.

Upon her return to Australia, Sister Towner took on pharmacy study at the University of Sydney, emigrating to the United States of America where she married twice and held various positions as nurse in veteran hospitals. 
​Sister Greta passed away in the US in 1961 and shares a gravestone with her second husband, Harry Maloney.

Sister Greta Towner is an Anzac nurse who comes from a family of distinguished soldiers, and has herself an honourable military record.  She was one of the nurses on duty at Lemnos during the Gallipoli campaign, and was mentioned in despatches.  The Imperial Government then lent Sister Towner to the French, and she saw service in the French military hospitals until the signing of Armistice. Sister Towner has since been doing transport duty for the AIF.  She is a sister of Lieut. Towner, V.C. MC., the big Queensland who was known in London as the Giant Anzac, Lieut. Commander Harold Auten, V.C. D.S.C. of H.M.S. Stock Force, and known as the Mystery V.C. is a cousin.  He has lately published an interesting book entitled Q-Boat Adventures.  Lieut-Col. Hudson, V.C. D.S.O. of the Sherwood Foresters, BIF is a brother in law.  Sister Towner returned to Brisbane on Tuesday.  She came down to welcome her brother, and while here was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Samuel Rowley, at Stonehenge, Mosman.
